Captain John Williams commands the Detective Division which is located at 4201 E. 72nd Avenue in Commerce City, Colorado. The Detective Division has one lieutenant who assists the captain in the day-to-day operations of the division. The Detective Division is comprised of three sections: Crimes Against Persons, Crimes Against Property and Lab\Property Evidence. Each section has its own sergeant and team of detectives
The Detective Division includes a Forensic Laboratory in which the Crime Scene Investigators process crime scenes and are responsible for evidence identification, documentation, collection and preservation. The Property Evidence Unit is responsible for cataloging and storing evidence.
The Detective Division has five full-time, and 27 volunteer, Victim Advocates that are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to respond to the needs of victims of crime by providing crisis intervention, support, referrals and assistance with the criminal justice process.
