Adams County Employee Receives 2004 County Veterans Service Officer of the Year Award.
Mr. Gary Lathrop, Adams County's Veterans Service Officer, was awarded the Louis Nardini County Veterans Service Officer of the Year Award for 2004 by the Colorado County Veterans Service Officer Organization. The Adams County Board of Commissioners recognized Lathrop in public hearing on June 21, 2004, with a proclamation in honor of his achievement.
"Adams County is home to more than 33,000 veterans," said Elaine Valente, Board of County Commissioners chairman. "Mr. Lathrop provides a vital service to the community and we are pleased his work is recognized on a statewide level."
Lathrop handles a caseload of 1,436 veterans, with 245 new claims per year. Lathrop served with the United States Marine Corps from June 2, 1964 through October 31, 1971. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam.
The Louis Nardini Award is presented yearly to the Veterans Service Officer who has displayed outstanding performance and achievement in the advocacy for veterans in Colorado.
