Fast Track Volunteer Advocates
17th Judicial District District Attorney's Office, Victim Witness Unit

Volunteers in the District Attorney's office assist victims who appear to testify in the completion of Victim Impact Statements and Crime Victim Compensation applications, as well as obtaining witness fee and mileage reimbursements.  Volunteer advocates will contact victims of crime in misdemeanor domestic violence cases as soon as the office receives a law enforcement report to provide an explanation of the "Fast Track Prosecution Program" and the no-contact bond provision.  Volunteers also offer support, information and referrals.  The volunteer advocate will provide victims a copy of the 18-1-1001 criminal protection order.

Volunteer advocates will accompany victims to court.   If the victim does not wish to sit in the courtroom, the advocate will attend court proceedings and update the victim.   The volunteer advocate will inform the victim of next court date.  The volunteer advocate will respond to telephone inquiries from victims regarding case status, general criminal justice process, court procedures and referrals.  Volunteer advocates will assist the Volunteer Program Coordinator with obtaining law enforcement offense reports, Blackstone histories and municipal criminal histories as needed.
